C comme les Couleurs de mon Confinement

Les couleurs de mon confinement s’expriment par des fils.

À tricoter, si je veux.

À tisser ou crocheter, peut-être aussi, un peu.

Et à broder aussi, beaucoup.

Attention: J’ai trois enfants scolarisés à distance et un job aussi, hein? Je ne passe pas tout mon temps l’aiguille à la main... Mais toutes ces couleurs à ma disposition font chanter mon quotidien dans ces temps bousculés.

Les étapes de finitions d’un quilt : Arc-en-ciel gelé

Le patchwork est terminé. Comment en faire un quilt?

Je crée un sandwich avec le tissu du verso, du molleton, et le top. Celui-ci étant petit, je me suis contentée de le fixer avec des pinces sur les côtés et quelques épingles sur les carrés gris.

Je surpique mon sandwich. Comme je fais ici uniquement des traits droits et que le molleton est épais, j’emploie mon pied de biche à double entraînement qui est fait pour entraîner simultanément les couches inférieures et supérieures de coutures épaisses.

A ce stade je trouvais que les motifs de surpiquage étaient joli mais que les carrés multicolores étaient peut-être trop peu maintenus. Je ne voulais cependant pas leur ajouter un motif supplémentaire.

Le verso confirme mon sentiment. Au final j’ai ajouté une croix de quelques centimètres au centre de chaque carré coloré pour maintenir sans écraser ces parties.

J’ai ajouté un biais pour terminer proprement les bords. Il est cousu à la machine sur le recto du quilt.

Puis replié et appliqué à la main au verso. L’étiquette a été apposée avant le surpiquage.

Après lavage doux à la machine, le quilt sèche au soleil (pas trop longtemps et cote verso exposé).

Ça fait des jolis effets de transparence, non?

Filer puis tricoter

Voici la dernière poche à phone tricotée avec mon fil fait main.



En moins d'un mois elle a déjà bien vécu. Elle a volé au dessus du Jura. Elle a été oubliée dans l'avion. Elle nous est revenue par courrier postal... Ouf!
Je veux bien en refaire quand Mr les perd, mais peut-être pas chaque semaine.

Laine teinte par Twisted Fiber Art, filée au rouet en 3ply câblé pour conserver l'évolution des couleurs, et tricotée main par bibi.

Couture express : serviettes météo

Plutôt nuageux ou ensoleillé? Ou les deux

Deux sets de serviettes de table banales mais joliment colorées achetées hier, quatre bouts de tissu assortis piochés dans ma collection, et voici de quoi remplacer les vieilles toutes trouées que j'avais achetées en deuxième main. (Elles étaient brodées main quand même! Je ne pouvais pas les abandonner sans leur donner une deuxième vie.)

Ravaudage Raspberry

Le coude du pull cashemire du Barbu était troué. Quand je lui ai proposé d'y glisser un motif brodé, il m'a demandé la framboise de micro ordinateurs bien connus (mais pas assez). J'ai adoré l'idée.
Donc voici le Ravaudage Raspberry:

Ce n'est pas la première fois que je colmate des trous sur ce pull. Les premières réparations étaient invisibles, mais plus il vieillit plus j'ose la fantaisie.
Je suis assez fière de mes bricolages, et de l'homme qui les porte avec humour et panache.

La grille du motif a été publiée il y a quelques jours.

E - La broderie comme exutoire

Parfois, la broderie c'est un moyen d'exprimer délibérément, précisément, joliment mais clairement le fond de notre pensée. Et ça fait réellement du bien.

Désolée pour la qualité de l'image. Pas du tout désolée pour la grossièreté, qui est ici employée à très bon escient.

Knitting with handspun is fun

Especially when you get close to the end of the ball... I am running against the yarn more often than not. When I have a few meters left, I can knit funny little things.

Nouvelle Flamme cardigan

I am finishing today my 2012 summer knit-olympics project : a cardigan in a colorful mix of cobweight cashmere yarn bought at Colourmart. It is NOT perfect but I am really proud of this one.

Melting the ice - Faire fondre la glace

It is finally warm in Switzerland. I am missing a little bit less Australia, even if I am still a bit cold on the evenings or when the wind blows.
The mix of cotton, rayon and linen of my own "Glaciers are Melting" shawl is absolutely perfect for my naked shoulders. Soft, with a great drape, a bit heavy and holding its place beautifully it is adapted to the warming temperature and is still and always a delice to wear. I have tested this shawl for four seasons now (I am counting our freezing cold april as a late winter) and I still love it dearly. My friend Barbara does too. She has been wearing the first Melting Glaciers for more than two years, taking it everywhere with her. Each time I see her whe keeps repeating how much she loves it. If ther was any doubt ever (no) she is absolutely the most knit-worthy person I know!

This is why I am astonished this gem has still only 7 projects on Ravelry. Knitters don't know what they miss.


ps.: It is also a great summer knit: the yarn does not stick to the needle or the fingers.


Il fait enfin beau et chaud en Suisse. Je regrette un peu moins l'Australie, même si j'ai encore un peu froid le soir, ou quand la brise s'en mèle.
Le mélange coton, viscose et lin de mon châle "Glaciers are Melting" est parfait pour des épaules nues. Doux, d'un beau tombé un peu lourd qui tient bien, adapté aux températures plus clémentes, c'est encore et toujours un délice à porter. Je l'ai déjà testé sur quatre saisons (je considère ce mois d'avril glacial comme un hiver tardif), et je l'aime toujours autant. Mon amie Barbara aussi, qui porte régulièrement le premier Glaciers Fondent et l'emporte partout depuis deux ans!! Chaque fois que je la vois elle me répète combien elle aime ce châle. S'il y a jamais eu un doute (non) elle est vraiment digne de recevoir du tricot-main.

Il n'a pourtant pour l'instant que 7 projets sur Ravelry. Les tricoteuses ne savent pas ce qu'elles perdent!

ps.: C'est aussi un projet estival idéal: le fil ne colle ni aux doigts ni aux aiguilles.

sleeping bags from sarees - sacs de couchage en saris

I am transforming some old sarees into sleeping bags. Getting to play with 5m long pieces of silk fabric is both amazing and tedious. But my wonderful Elna has THE tool to make this fun:

The Hemmer Foot

Je suis en train de transformer des vieux saris en draps-sacs (sacs à viande - sacs de couchage...) Faire joujou avec des pièces de soie de 5 mètres de long, c'est à la fois merveilleux et fastidieux. Par bonheur ma bonne vieille Elna a THE outil qui rend la tâche amusante et presque facile:

Le Pied Ourleur

I bought the sarees on ebay. Beware: only the one with PURE silk in the description are real silk. Guess how I know? I thought that I was careful in my order, but I still have two piece of beautiful but absolutely useless fabric sitting on my table.

J'ai acheté les saris sur ebay. Attention: seul les objets avec les termes "PURE silk" dans la description sont vraiment en soie. Je pensais avoir été prudente, mais je me trouve malgré tout avec deux magnifiques pièces de tissu inutilisable sur ma table.



For this kind of project, be also extra careful to choose pieces without beads or metallic embroideries on the main part of the saree. Those would be unconfortable to sleep in.

Pour ce genre de projet, choisissez des pièces sans perles ni broderies métalliques sur la partie principale du sari. Cela rendrait le sac inconfortable pour dormir.



If the ornamental panel is beaded or particularly beautiful, it can be used as a wall hanging, or maybe a big cushion.

Si l'extrémité ornamentale du sari est particulièrement belle, vous pouvez aussi l'utiliser pour faire tableau ou un gros coussin.

Still Spinning

Yes I am still spinning.
To prove it today I will be proudly introducting three of my favourite skeins:

Enchanted Forest

Falkland Top by The Fiber Denn, two ply, wheelspun on my dear Suzie (Majacraft).
One is spun compressed, the other with lots of air. Just to see what it gives.
The result is ok but not thrilling texturewise although the fiber itself is great. I prefer the result when I spin two more similar singles to be plyed.
Anyway I love the colourway and the hand, and may use this on a yoke for a pullover for me.


Beauty and the Beast

Two skeins are half Merino from MaryJane's Attic, half Local Wool (offered by the very kind shepherd of the University's flock, who was stunned to be asked for wool by a spinner. First time in his life...). I washed some handfull of the fleece and spun directly from it. I must do some educating work on the gentle man, as he still have to learn how to minimize the quantity of vegetyble matter on the fleece...
The last skein is the rest of the merino plyed on itself.
The dark wool is very frizzy and bouncy. The colour is deep and lovely. The girly pink merino adds softness while the raw wool keeps the yarn from being too sweet'n cute.
I love the contrast. This experiment is a total success and i hope to try it again with a more manly colour, to knit a hat for the shepherd.


Wine Tasting

This one is my favourite.
This is from a mystery sample offered by the kind and elegant Twisted from Etsy.
She added this to my fill up the enveloppe on my first order to her! I don't know what this fibre is but it is heavenly to work with, and I am deeply in love with the resulting yarn. Can you see all the colours of the wines of the world in this yarn as I do? Do you not want to pat this lovely fuziness? Can you imagine the light and soft touch of the yarn?


I love spinning.
